Our Story
Up to Scratch began its journey in 2005, sparked by an incident that left founder Will with a dented car in Cambridge. Recognizing a need for accessible and reliable car repair services, Will returned to his roots in Cardiff and embarked on a mission to fill the gap he had discovered.
Starting with a mobile repair service, Will aimed to cater to the needs of both car owners and enthusiasts alike. His commitment to delivering top-notch service, coupled with a genuine passion for automobiles, quickly gained traction in the local community.
As demand for Up to Scratch’s services grew, Will made the strategic decision to transition from a mobile operation to a dedicated workshop space. This allowed the business to expand its capabilities and offer a wider range of services to customers in Cardiff and Caerphilly.

I had a full respray on my 350z and the results are absolutely outstanding - literally the best paint shop in South Wales. They also do wheels, repairs, mopping (Removing swirl marks) and custom builds so well worth checking out.

I took my car down to have a large scratch and small dent repaired, the car is quite new and it’s a fairly unique colour (Green) and I was really keen to get the work done to a high standard. I’d had quotes from some other places (including a large chain type company) and none of them had filled me with confidence, giving me lots of excuses up front about it not being guaranteed to look perfect etc. Will was fantastic and totally reassured me, I felt safe leaving my car in their hands and confident that they would do a good job! The end result was amazing I couldn’t tell there was ever any damage. We had one small issue with getting the colour to match perfectly, to be honest I expected this as it’s quite a unique shade of green with a lot of gold in it. Will was great when I reached out to say I’d noticed it wasn’t a perfect match, they could totally have charged me for a respray but resolved the issue completely free of charge for me. The painter, Matt, was also really great. Coming to chat to me when I came back down to show them the issue. He’d already sourced some slightly different paints from another manufacturer for me to compare and find the best match. Overall I can’t recommend the guys at Up to Scratch enough. If you care about your car and you want any body/paint work doing… this is your place.

Car rebooked for 2nd respray of bumper due to poor prep on previous attempt,so cant knock them for sorting the problem out and the owner is a nice guy to deal with Regards

Very friendly, professional outfit. The quality of the reception area was fantastic and I knew they would do a good job. The repair of the car was first class. Free courtesy car too, whilst the car was repaired.
